Vaccines
FVRCP Series (Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, and Panleukopenia)
Kittens must start their FVRCP vaccine series between 6-8 weeks of age. Kittens will receive booster vaccines every 3-4 weeks until 16 weeks of age.
Leukemia purevax series
Initial vaccine will be given between 9-12 weeks of age, with a booster vaccine given 3-4 weeks later.
Rabies purevax
Given at 12+ weeks of age
Feline leukemia/fiv test
This test should be done prior to vaccination of your kitten, at your kitten’s first appointment. This early detection testing will help to maintain the health of your cat, and will also help to prevent spreading these incurable viruses/infections to other cats
Intestinal parasite test (poop sample needed) and deworming
will be completed at your kitten’s first appointment, followed by a second deworming and intestinal parasite test in 2-4 weeks. We may postpone the second intestinal parasite test if your kitten is positive for worms/parasites. In cases where kittens test positive for worms/parasites, additional deworming medications and intestinal parasite tests may be prescribed.
Microchipping
Microchipping is strongly recommended as soon as 4 months of age. Too many pets that “never get out” DO, so please consider doing this to make sure your pet will always have the best chance of finding their way home to you!
Pre-anesthetic BLOODWORK, SPAY/NEUTER, & MICROCHIP should be done at 4-6 MONTHS of age
ADULTS (1-6 YEARS OLD) need the following care:
- Annual Examination, dental examination, and yearly wellness bloodwork
- Annual Profender® deworming
- Leukemia PUREVAX Vaccine and Rabies PUREVAX Vaccine every year
- FVRCP Vaccine every third year
We recommend…
- INTESTINAL PARASITE TESTS: As soon as possible for detection of worms/parasites which are common and can be serious in kittens. Some parasites can be passed to people and children, so this protects your entire family.
- ANNUAL OR SEMI-ANNUAL EXAMS AND DENTAL EXAMINATION: Wellness exams are crucial in keeping your pet healthy for years to come. On average, pets age 7 years to 1 human year. With each wellness examination, we will also conduct an oral examination where we will look for signs of periodontal disease. Left untreated, it will result in great pain and discomfort, tooth loss, lowered resistance to disease, and greater susceptibility to heart, lung, and kidney disease. Preventative care is the best way to avoid costly, critical care in the future.
- LAB WORK: Lab work gives us an inside look at your pet’s internal organ health and can many times help us catch problems, even in young animals, that can help prolong the life and health of your pet. Routine lab work also gives us a valuable “baseline” and trending to refer to if your pet becomes sick.
- FLEA/TICK and HEARTWORM CONTROL: Flea and heartworm control is important for your pet’s health and comfort. We recommend using Bravecto Plus® (for fleas/ticks and heartworms) or Revolution ® (for fleas, ear mites, heartworm prevention, and intestinal parasite control) as a preventive. Please call our office before applying any other flea or heartworm products. Improper use of products can be dangerous!
- MICROCHIPPING: Although it is recommended to do when young, this can be done at any age. (And we think it is so important, we are recommending it twice!) Please ask our staff for further information.
- APPROPRIATE NUTRITION PROGRAM: Each stage of your cat’s life has specific nutritional needs. Excessive or insufficient intake of nutrients can put your pet at risk. We recommend using a premium cat food, such as Royal Canin, that is specifically formulated for your pet’s particular life stage.
